The Kitchen at Commonplace

A restaurant kitchen and gathering spot designed for conversation and a good book.

An extension of Midtown Oklahoma City’s popular Commonplace Bookstore, the Kitchen at Commonplace was designed to foster the surrounding neighborhood with community, camaraderie, and tailored hospitality. The owners desired to serve simple fare and all-day drink service, often paired with literary readings and supper-club events, in a casual place for a warm reception or quiet moment of respite.

Beginning with the Bookstore’s signature green epoxy floors, the wood-paneled walls and subway tiles are reminiscent of the book spines peeking through the interior passageways, adding warmth to the space. Custom cabinetry and shelves create clever kitchen storage while displaying a curated selection of retail offerings. The wraparound poured concrete bar top extends from the cashier station around the entire prep and service area; the bar also accommodates seating that invites diners to interact with staff and one another.
